The Museum of Natural History is responsible for the collecting and recording of artifacts of cultural significance to Nova Scotia as well as promoting Nova Scotia’s natural landscape. The Museum houses collections on Archeology, Ethnology, Mammals, Marine life and more.
About Our Opportunity
The Museum of Natural History is seeking an outgoing, energetic, enthusiastic and team oriented individual with exceptional communication and organizational skills to ensure excellence in retail and visitor services to clients and visitors. You will assist with visitor services, admissions, shipping/receiving and reception duties for the Museum and Heritage Division, recording visitor statistics, maintaining current information on special orders, passes, discounts and special offers. You will assist with the coordination of facility rentals, promotional activities and special events and other duties as required. You will also assist with researching, displaying and maintaining inventory for resale products. You will maintain and operate cash registers for admissions, pass and retail sales, ensuring special offers, discounts and cash handling procedures are completed in adherence with policies and procedures.
To be successful in this role, you will have three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
You will also possess the following:
- Previous retail and customer services experience
- Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets (excel), databases, e-mail and internet/intranet applications
- Experience with cash handling, POS and inventory control systems
- Demonstrated excellence in organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge and strong interest in the cultural and natural history of Nova Scotia and its Museums
Assets include: training or certification in tourism, hospitality, retail and/or museum studies, certification in first aid and WHMIS and the ability to speak French.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
This is a 60% term opportunity with an anticipated end date of September 7, 2019
Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
Pay Grade: CL 13
Salary Range: $1,407.60 – $1,532.16 Bi-Weekly
This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
